Volunteer FAQs

Your questions, answered.

Roles can be weekly, occasional or focused on a particular project.

Do I need Scouting experience?

No. You do not need to have been a Scout or know every outdoor skill. Bring your enthusiasm and willingness to learn. We provide training and support, and you can discuss your interests with the team to find a suitable role.

How much time does it take?

It depends on the role. Some volunteers help weekly, while others support camps, individual events or a particular project. Tell us what time you can realistically offer, including any limits, so we can discuss something that fits.

Do I need a DBS check?

We will explain the checks required for your role and guide you through them, including a DBS check where required under Scouts’ safeguarding rules.

Can I help without leading weekly meetings?

Yes. There are opportunities to help with equipment, communications, administration, events and fundraising, as well as supporting activities with young people. Tell us what you enjoy doing and whether you prefer a regular role or occasional tasks.

Can I share a skill or help with a single activity?

We would love to hear about it. A hobby, practical skill or community connection could contribute to the programme. Speak to the team first so we can discuss the activity, the age group and what is needed to organise it.

Can I meet the team before deciding?

Yes. Start with an informal conversation about what volunteering involves and arrange a visit with the group. There is no commitment when you send an enquiry, and it is a good opportunity to ask about the role and support available.

What training and support will I receive?

We provide guidance and training to help you get started, with support from the group and Scouts. The learning and checks depend on the role, so the team will explain what is required and how to complete it.

How do I express an interest?

Use the volunteer interest form on this page or contact the group. Tell us which section or type of work interests you, any skills you would like to share and how much time you can offer. Choose “Happy to help anywhere” if you are not sure yet.

Volunteer with us

Start a
conversation.

Tell us a little about yourself and where you would like to help. A member of our volunteer team will get back to you.

There is no commitment at this stage. We will arrange an informal chat and help you find a role that fits.

Your details will only be used to respond to your volunteering enquiry.
No pressure. Just a conversation.

Could you help create
the next adventure?

Whether you have an hour, an evening or a skill to share, we would love to hear from you.
