A warm welcome
A friendly, inclusive environment where young people can be themselves and make friends.
Tell us a little about your child and we will be in touch about coming along. First visits are relaxed and there is no commitment.
From a first taste of adventure at four to greater independence at fourteen, every young person has a place to belong at 7th Boston Swineshead.
Each section has an age-appropriate programme, its own identity and the same warm welcome. Select a section to discover what happens at meetings, the badges young people can earn and how to join.

Young people progress through Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts as they get older. At every stage, activities are designed around their development—starting with play and new friendships, then introducing bigger challenges, practical skills, teamwork and responsibility.
No previous experience is needed. Our volunteer leaders help each young person settle in, take part at their own pace and discover what they can do.
The activities change as young people grow, but every section is built around fun, belonging and skills for life.
A friendly, inclusive environment where young people can be themselves and make friends.
Practical, creative and people skills developed by learning through experience.
Games, outdoor activities, visits, camps and challenges suited to each age group.
Achievements that recognise effort, encourage curiosity and celebrate growing confidence.
The young person’s age normally determines their section. If they are close to moving age or have additional needs, speak to us and we will help find the best starting point.
Squirrels are for ages 4–6, Beavers 6–8, Cubs 8–10½ and Scouts 10½–14. These age groups help us plan suitable activities. If your child is near a section boundary, contact us for advice before arranging a visit.
The section teams plan the move to the next age group together. Speak to your current leader about timing, introductions and any uniform or badge changes so your child knows what to expect.
Often yes, depending on places in the section. You do not need to wait for the start of a school year to enquire. Tell us your child’s age and we will explain current availability and the next steps.
No. A young person can join Beavers, Cubs or Scouts without having been in a younger section. Activities are designed to help members learn together, and the leaders will introduce newcomers to the section’s routines.
The right section normally depends on each child’s age, so siblings may attend different meetings. Include both children’s ages in your enquiry and we can explain the relevant sections and their meeting arrangements.
Squirrels begin with play, stories and discovery. Beavers try new activities and build confidence with friends. Cubs take on bigger challenges and teamwork, while Scouts develop practical skills, independence and responsibility. Each section page gives a flavour of its programme.
Start with a conversation with us about their age, interests and the support that helps them take part. The team can discuss an appropriate starting point and any adjustments before a taster. Please agree arrangements with the leaders rather than assuming a different age group will be the best fit.
Explorers continue the adventure into the teenage years. Contact the group about current Explorer opportunities and moving on from Scouts; your section leader can help you understand the next step.
Tell us the young person’s age and a little about what they enjoy. We will introduce you to the right section and arrange a relaxed first visit.
