Scouts uniform & badge placement in Swineshead

Our Scout uniform brings the 7th Boston Swineshead troop together as young people develop their independence. Families in Swineshead and the surrounding Boston area can ask our team for help with the Scout shirt, group necker and badge placement.

Our group necker

Our necker is black with a narrow purple inner border and deep green outer edging. It connects all four sections at 7th Boston Swineshead, from Squirrels through to Scouts.

Making room for new achievements

Scout badges recognise progress across activities, practical skills and challenges. Alongside these awards, the uniform carries group identification and may include patrol or leadership badges. Ask the Scout leaders to check unfamiliar badges before sewing them onto a new shirt.

If you are joining from Swineshead, Boston or a nearby Lincolnshire village, contact us before buying uniform. We can explain what your child needs and help with questions about their first meeting.

Questions about Scouts

Good to
know.

Everything you need before arranging your first visit.

What age can children join Scouts?

Scouts is for young people aged 10½–14. No previous Scouting experience is needed. If your child is close to moving age, contact us so we can discuss the best starting point and current availability.

When and where do Scouts meet?

Scouts meet on Thursdays during term time in Swineshead, near Boston, Lincolnshire. The current calendar lists meetings at 6.45–8.30pm. Please check the latest dates and contact us before visiting so we can confirm the arrangements and share the exact venue.

Can my child try Scouts before joining?

Yes. Contact us to arrange a relaxed taster session with the section team. Tell us your child’s age and anything that would help them settle in. The visit is a chance to meet the leaders, join in and ask questions before deciding whether to join.

What should my child bring to their first meeting?

Comfortable clothes suitable for activities and a drink are usually enough for a first visit. Check with the leaders before the session in case the programme needs outdoor clothing or anything extra. Please ask before buying uniform or equipment.

What do Scouts do at meetings?

Scouts develop practical skills and independence through activities such as hiking, navigation, camping and team challenges. Young people help shape their adventures, take on responsibility and work towards badges together.

What uniform will my child need?

The section uniform includes a Scout shirt and the 7th Boston Swineshead group necker. Contact the team before buying uniform so we can explain what is needed and when. Our Scouts resource guide covers uniform, badges and the Promise.

How do badges work, and where should they be sewn?

Activities and challenges give young people opportunities to learn skills and work towards badges. Ask your section leaders about a particular badge and where it belongs before sewing it on or transferring it from another uniform. The resource guide links to official placement guidance.

What if my child is nervous or needs extra support?

Tell the section team before a first visit about anything that would help your child take part. Leaders can explain the routine and discuss a gradual introduction or suitable adjustments. Agree support arrangements with the team so everyone knows what to expect.

How much does it cost to join?

The section team will confirm current subscriptions and payment arrangements, along with any separate costs for uniform, camps or trips. If cost is a concern, please speak to the team privately so you can discuss the options before committing.

What happens after Scouts?

Explorers offer the next step into the teenage years. Speak to your Scout leader about current local opportunities and the timing of a move so your young person can find out what comes next.

Ready to give it a go?

Your first visit is relaxed, friendly and commitment-free. Come meet the team and see what Scouts is all about.
